Spun Bench

‘Bengtsson is now experimenting with a carbon-fibre spinning process originally used by NASA in the production of rocket fuel tanks and nozzles. This process enables him not only to create chairs and chaises longues in the complex curves of computer graphics, but to achieve, as he puts it, “maximum strength from minimum material” as only a fifth of the surface consists of carbon-fibre.’
Alice Rawthorn, former director, Design Museum, London.

NEST

Influenced by the spring and of nature, this chair is inspired by a bird's nest. My idea was to create a graphical chaos which still felt like a unified whole.

Nest Chair

Take a sneak peek at Pawel Grunert’s newest creation, the Nest Chair (SIE51). As you’ve probably already can guess, the design is inspired by a nest. Handmade from stainless steel, the chair is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. I have no idea how comfortable it is but if it’s anything like my steel scrubber, I’ll pass. The official premier will take place at 2011 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.

Magic Chair

Black Magic Collection: Magic Chair
2002, soft seat

With ‘Magic Chair’ a totally new way of creating soft seats was achieved. Technically something new was introduced, that even amazed experts working in resin and fibre technology.
By laminating a last layer of glass fibre with a flexible resin over a polyester chair (which has soft foam under places where comfort is needed) a comfortable chair was realized.
What is new is the flexibility of the resin, that this flexible resin is biological, that the flexible biological resin connects glass fibres to a foam, and that polyester resin and biological resin accepted each other.
